Saturday’s showdown between Lamont “The Reaper” Roach Jr. and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz ended in a majority draw at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

Cruz keeps his WBC interim junior welterweight title, while Roach walks away dealing with the sting of yet another majority draw.

Judge Chris Tellez scored the fight 115–111 for Cruz, while Nathan Palmer and Cory A. Santos both had it 113–113.

Early on, Roach looked unfocused — even engaging with the crowd mid‑fight. Cruz capitalized in the third round with a huge knockdown that sent the arena into chaos. Roach was stunned, but not finished. Despite flashes of momentum from both sides, neither fighter found the separation needed to take over completely.

“I think I won — I definitely outboxed him,” Roach said. “All I need is an even playing field, that’s all. I’m gonna show my skills, grit, and will… and not to mention, I think I broke my hand in the fifth round.”

Roach (21-5-3, 10 KOs) entered Saturday’s matchup still carrying the frustration from his controversial ending against Gervonta “Tank” Davis earlier this year. After months of public back‑and‑forth, the rematch never materialized. Instead, Roach made the jump in weight to take on Cruz.

“Obviously I proved again that I will fight anyone,” Roach said. “This isn’t my natural weight. I moved up and fought a tough competitor in Isaac Cruz. But two times in a row? I can’t fight my opponent and the judges.”

Cruz (28-3-2, 13 KOs), who went the distance with Tank in 2021, entered the ring coming off a win over Omar Salcido to claim the interim title.

By the fifth and sixth rounds, Roach’s approach clearly shifted — likely due to the injured hand he later confirmed. But ironically, the adjustment helped him. Instead of biting on Pitbull’s pressure, Roach began setting traps of his own and started to fight with sharper intention.

Momentum really swung in the seventh when Cruz was penalized for excessive clinching. The deduction visibly frustrated him and seemed to breathe life into Roach’s corner. The once‑electric crowd that erupted for every Cruz punch quieted noticeably.

Cruz dug deep in the championship rounds, landing clean, heavy sho

ts in the 11th and 12th, trying to secure the win.

For San Antonio fans, the fight delivered. The result? Not ideal. But the action? Absolutely. And both sides are open to running it back — with Cruz even tossing a little shade toward Tank in the process.

“Do the fans want a rematch?” Cruz said. “I’m not Gervonta Davis — I’m ready for a rematch right away.”
